Seller Shipping Policy

As a seller on BuyHappyThings.com, you are responsible for packaging and shipping your sold items to buyers. This policy explains your shipping obligations, how shipping rates work, and what to do when problems arise.

1. Shipping Obligations

By selling on BuyHappyThings.com, you agree to:

  • Ship promptly. Ship each order within 3 business days of the sale date unless you have specified a longer handling time in your listing. If you need more time, message the buyer before the handling period expires and get their agreement.
  • Ship to the buyer's checkout address. Always ship to the address provided by the buyer at checkout. Do not ship to a different address without written agreement from the buyer.
  • Mark the order as shipped. Update the order status in your seller dashboard when you ship, and enter the tracking number. This triggers the buyer's shipping notification and starts your payout hold countdown.
  • Provide accurate tracking. Use a carrier that provides tracking for all shipments. Tracking is required for payout release and is essential evidence if a buyer opens a Case claiming non-delivery.
  • Comply with carrier regulations. You are solely responsible for complying with the terms and conditions of your chosen shipping carrier, including any restrictions on what may be shipped.

2. How Shipping Rates Work

Shipping rates displayed at checkout are calculated in real time by our shipping partner (Shippo) based on the item's weight, dimensions, and the buyer's destination. You are reimbursed for the actual cost of the shipping label when the order is fulfilled.

To ensure accurate rates, enter correct weight and dimensions for every listing. If the actual shipping cost exceeds the buyer's estimated amount by more than 10%, the excess may be deducted from your payout rather than charged back to the buyer. Accurate listing data is the best way to avoid this.

You may purchase a shipping label through your seller dashboard or use your own carrier account. Either way, enter the tracking number in the order before marking it as shipped.

3. Packaging

Model trains and related items are fragile and often valuable. You are responsible for packaging items appropriately to survive transit. Best practices include:

  • Use the original manufacturer's box when available, and place it inside a larger outer box with adequate padding.
  • Wrap individual pieces in bubble wrap or foam before boxing.
  • For multi-item or heavy orders, double-box with at least 2 inches of cushioning on all sides.
  • Consider purchasing shipping insurance for high-value items (see Section 5 below).

Damage caused by inadequate packaging is the seller's responsibility. Buyers may open a Case for items that arrive damaged.

4. International Shipments

If you ship internationally, you are responsible for accurately completing all customs documentation, including item descriptions, declared values, and country of origin. Misrepresenting an item's value on customs forms is illegal and may result in seizure of the shipment and suspension of your account.

Be aware that international shipments may be subject to import duties and taxes at the destination. These are the buyer's responsibility unless your listing clearly states otherwise. Consider noting any customs or import considerations in your listing description.

5. Shipping Insurance

Shipping insurance is optional but strongly recommended for items valued above $50. You can add insurance when purchasing a label through your seller dashboard, or through your carrier directly. BuyHappyThings.com does not provide or cover shipping insurance — this is between you and your chosen carrier or insurer.

If an insured item is lost or damaged, you must file the claim with the carrier or insurer. The claim process and timelines are set by the carrier and are outside our control.

6. Lost or Damaged Packages

If a buyer reports that their order has not arrived or arrived damaged:

  • Respond to the buyer promptly (within 48 hours) and work toward a resolution.
  • If the package appears lost, contact your carrier to initiate a trace or claim. Provide the buyer with the outcome.
  • If you cannot resolve the issue directly, the buyer may open a Case through our Cases Policy.
  • Be prepared to provide valid proof of shipping — confirmation that the item was shipped to the buyer's address — if a Case is opened.

If a package is returned to you as undeliverable due to an incorrect address provided by the buyer, contact the buyer before reshipping and agree on who bears any additional shipping cost.

7. Consequences for Shipping Violations

Failure to ship within the stated handling time, providing false tracking information, or repeatedly failing to resolve delivery problems may result in account warnings, suspension of selling privileges, or account termination.
